Yes, you can create a free online store in Egypt, but "free" usually describes the start, not the running of it. Platforms with a free tier let you open a store with no credit card, and free templates or WooCommerce make the software free. What is never free: online payment fees, shipping, advertising and, once you grow, usually a domain name.

The short version: if you want a free online store that actually sells in Egypt, start on a free tier of a platform that already has cash on delivery and local couriers, so you pay nothing until you sell. Avoid free templates with no checkout or order management, and read the limits of any "free forever" offer. From day one, work out the costs that come with every order.

This article is part of our guide to starting an online store in Egypt and focuses on one question: can you really build a store for free, and on what terms?

Can you really create an online store for free?

You can, in four ways, and each is "free" in a different sense:

Route What is free What you pay Best for
Free tier on a store builder The store, hosting and updates at the start Online payment fees, shipping, and an upgrade when you grow A merchant who wants to sell quickly without a developer
WordPress + WooCommerce The software itself Hosting, a domain, often a theme and extensions, and your time or a developer's Someone with technical skills
Free HTML or Blogger template The design Everything else: checkout, orders, security, hosting A design test or a school project
Selling on social media and WhatsApp The account and the page Your time handling every order by hand, plus ads Testing a brand-new product

So if your question is "which free ecommerce website builder in Egypt should I start with?", a platform with a free tier is the closest thing to a real store that takes orders from day one.

Free plans on store builders

Most platforms now offer something free to start, in different forms. These are shown as listed on each company's own website in October 2026:

  • Baseet: a free tier to start with no credit card, and one paid plan at EGP 500 a month or EGP 4,999 a year for unlimited orders and every feature, with no per-order commission.
  • Zid: its pricing page shows a free "Starter" (البداية) plan, with paid plans priced in Saudi riyals.
  • Salla: its homepage invites you to "create your store for free".
  • Shopify: not free. Its Egypt pricing page shows a three-day trial, then USD 1 a month for three months, then plans billed in US dollars.

That is why so many people search for a "free Shopify alternative": Shopify starts cheap, but its plans are in dollars afterwards, and using a third-party payment provider adds a percentage fee that depends on the plan. We compare this in detail in the Shopify alternative in Egypt for cash-on-delivery stores.

"Free forever": read the terms

"Free forever" sounds great, but ask how the platform makes money. Usually it is one of these: a cap on orders or products, a commission on every sale, key features locked, or the platform's branding on your store. None of that is wrong, but you should know it before you build on it. Before signing up for any free plan, find four answers:

  1. Is there a limit on orders or products?
  2. Is there a commission per sale?
  3. Are cash on delivery and local shipping available on the free plan?
  4. Can you export your customers and orders if you leave?

For Baseet, the website describes the free tier as one "to start, so you can test before any payment" and does not publish its limits on its public pages. Check the limits in the dashboard or ask support before you spend on a large ad campaign.

The costs that show up after a free start

This is the part the ads leave out. Even if the store is free, some costs come with every sale:

  • Online payment fees. Paymob, for example, lists on its pricing page a standard rate of 2.75% + EGP 3 per transaction, with no monthly fee. On an EGP 500 order that is about EGP 16.75.
  • Shipping on every order, plus the cost of a return if the customer refuses delivery.
  • A domain. A subdomain on the platform (such as mystore.baseet.cc) is free; your own .com is paid yearly.
  • Advertising. Most new stores need ads to get their first visitors.
  • Your time: product photography, descriptions and answering customers.

To know whether the free store will actually make money, run the per-order maths in what a cash-on-delivery order really costs you, and see every monthly line in online store cost in Egypt.

Free templates: HTML, Blogger and WordPress

If you are looking for a free ecommerce template, separate two things: a template is how the pages look; a store is the look plus a cart, checkout, order management, stock and shipping.

  • Free HTML store template. Nice static pages with no software behind them. You would need a developer to build the cart, checkout and database, which makes "free" the most expensive option.
  • Free Blogger store template. Blogger is built for blogs. You can display products and take orders on WhatsApp, but there is no real checkout or order management.
  • Free WordPress store theme. The closest to a real store, because it runs with WooCommerce. WooCommerce describes itself on its WordPress.org page as an open-source platform with a free core, but hosting, the domain, extensions and maintenance are on you.

Avoid "free ecommerce scripts" from unknown websites. You cannot tell whether they are secure or who will update them.

How to create a free online store, step by step

This is how to set up a free store on a platform with a free tier, paying nothing until your first sale:

  1. Prepare your products first: five to ten items with clear photos, a final price and a short description.
  2. Sign up for the free tier. On Baseet you need an email and a phone number, no credit card.
  3. Pick a theme and change colours and fonts with drag-and-drop.
  4. Add your products one by one, or import them from an Excel sheet.
  5. Turn on cash on delivery. It costs nothing to offer and suits most Egyptian customers. Add an online gateway when you are ready.
  6. Set shipping: prices per governorate, or a courier.
  7. Use the free address, such as mystore.baseet.cc, until you decide to buy a domain.
  8. Place a test order, then send the link to your first customers.

Can you build a free store in five minutes? Creating the account and choosing a theme can take minutes, and Baseet's homepage says the four steps to launch take under 15 minutes. But a store that is ready to sell needs more time to prepare product photos and descriptions, and nobody can skip that.

Using AI to build a free store

AI tools can speed up a free store: they write product descriptions and suggest category names. A store that sells still needs checkout, shipping and real photos. Use AI for writing, and check prices and sizes yourself.

A free store on Google?

There is no complete free "Google store", but there is something useful: Google Merchant Center lets you upload your store's products so they can appear in shopping results, with free listings alongside paid ads. Build your store first, then connect it to Google.

Making money from a free store

Profit does not come from the store. It comes from the gap between your selling price and the cost of the product, shipping and ads. A free store lowers your early risk but does not guarantee a profit. Practical advice:

  • Start with a product whose per-order profit you know after every cost.
  • Keep cash on delivery available, because Egyptian customers expect it, and confirm each order before shipping to cut returns.
  • Share the store link everywhere: your bio, WhatsApp and your ads.
  • Focus on your first ten customers and ask them for feedback and reviews.

The same logic applies to a digital-products store or a dropshipping store: the platform may be free at the start, but the real costs are marketing and the supplier's margin. The differences between these models are in starting an online store to sell.

Why Baseet makes sense for a free start in Egypt

Baseet lists a free tier to start with no credit card and no per-order commission, and when you want to grow there is one clear plan: EGP 500 a month or EGP 4,999 a year for unlimited orders and every feature. This is what the site says, without embellishment:

  • An Arabic-first store with right-to-left themes and support in Arabic.
  • Payments: cash on delivery, Fawry, Paymob, Tabby and others.
  • Shipping: Bosta, Mylerz, J&T and others, with booking and waybills from the dashboard.
  • WhatsApp automation for order confirmation, shipping status and abandoned-cart recovery.
  • A free address on baseet.cc, or your own domain.

In other words, you can start a store in Egypt, in Arabic, with cash on delivery, without paying a pound until you decide to.

FAQ

Can you create an online store for free?

Yes: through a free tier on a store builder, WooCommerce on your own hosting, or selling on social media. The closest to a real store is a free tier on a platform with payments and shipping built in. In every case you will pay online payment fees and shipping as you sell.

What is the best free ecommerce website builder in Egypt?

Look for an Arabic platform with a free tier that needs no card, supports cash on delivery and Egyptian couriers, and takes no commission per order. Baseet offers these according to its website. Compare any platform with a real test order before you decide.

How do I make a free online store?

Sign up for a free tier, pick a theme, add five to ten products with photos and prices, turn on cash on delivery and shipping, place a test order, then share the link. That takes a few hours if your products are ready.

Is there a free online store forever?

Some platforms offer free plans with no end date, but usually with limits, a commission or fewer features. Read the limits before building your store on one, and make sure you can export your data if you want to move.

Is a free template enough to run a store?

No. A template is only the look. You also need a cart, checkout, order management and shipping. A free HTML or Blogger template can look good, but it leaves you handling every order by hand or paying a developer.

When should I move from the free tier to a paid plan?

When you need something the free tier does not include, or when orders are steady and the subscription is a small part of your monthly profit. If you know your profit per order, you can work out how many orders cover the subscription.
