White Friday is Egypt's name for the Black Friday sales season, and in 2026 it centres on Friday 27 November. For an online store, the work that decides whether the season is profitable happens in the six weeks before: choosing which products to discount, pricing offers against real cash-on-delivery margins, and lining up order confirmation and courier capacity before volume spikes.

TL;DR: Black Friday is the Friday after US Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday of November), so 27 November 2026. Many Egyptian retailers stretch offers across several days or the whole week. Weeks 1–2: products and stock. Weeks 3–4: offer maths and store pages. Weeks 5–6: confirmation, couriers and warming up past customers. Then measure delivered profit, not orders placed.

This guide belongs to our series on how to start an online store in Egypt.

What White Friday is, and when it lands in 2026

According to Wikipedia's Black Friday article, Black Friday arrived in Egypt in 2014 under the name White Friday, renamed for religious and cultural reasons; the UAE campaign launched under the same name that year. Black Friday itself is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, and Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November.

The 2026 calendar works out like this: Thursdays in November fall on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th, so Thanksgiving is 26 November and Black Friday is 27 November. Large Egyptian marketplaces often run offers for longer than one day, which means shoppers are in sale mode for much of late November. You don't have to match their length. You do have to be ready on the days your own customers are looking.

Why a sale season can quietly lose you money

With cash on delivery, an order isn't revenue until the courier hands over the cash. A sale season stacks three risks at once:

  • Discounts that exceed margin. A 30% discount on an item that earns 25% after costs means you are paying people to buy.
  • More refused deliveries. Impulse orders placed in excitement get refused at the door more often than considered ones.
  • Courier congestion. Pickup delays and late deliveries push refusal rates up further.

Before setting any discount, work out your profit per order line by line, as laid out in our guide to COD order profit in Egypt. That number caps how deep you can go.

The 6-week plan, week by week

  1. Week 1 (mid-October): choose the offer list. Pull your sales history and pick products that sell steadily and carry enough margin. Leave thin-margin items out of the discount.
  2. Week 2: count stock and reorder. Contact suppliers early about quantities and lead times; they are heading into the same season.
  3. Week 3: price each offer. For every product, write down list price, discount, shipping cost and an expected return rate, then the profit left over. Drop anything that ends near zero.
  4. Week 4: prepare the store. Refresh photos and descriptions on offer products, add the campaign banner, and make your exchange policy easy to find.
  5. Week 5: confirmation and couriers. Set up order-confirmation messages and agree pickup schedules and expected volumes with your courier.
  6. Week 6: warm up your audience. Tell past customers that offers are coming and build an interested list on WhatsApp or Instagram before the day.

A worked example (illustrative numbers)

Say a tote bag sells for EGP 500 and leaves EGP 150 after product cost, packaging and shipping on a delivered order. A 20% discount removes EGP 100, leaving EGP 50. Now account for refusals. If one order in five is refused and each refusal costs, say, EGP 60 in two-way shipping, five orders earn 4 × 50 − 60 = EGP 140, or about EGP 28 per order placed. Push the discount to 25% (EGP 125 off) and each delivered order leaves EGP 25: five orders then earn 4 × 25 − 60 = EGP 40, about EGP 8 each. That is a lot of packing for almost nothing. Plug in your own figures before you commit.

Choosing the right offer type

Offer Works best when Risk Practical tip
Percentage off selected items Margins are wide Applying it sitewide Keep the list short
Coupon with minimum order You want bigger baskets Threshold set too high, carts abandoned Set it near your average order value
Free shipping above a threshold Delivery fees stop people buying Costly on small orders Fund it from margin, not hope
Free gift with order You have low-cost, high-perceived-value items Hidden margin erosion Price the gift into the offer
Bundles Items are bought together anyway Dumping slow stock inside bundles Pair genuinely complementary products

Treat the table as a thinking tool. The right mix for your store comes from your own margin sheet.

Honest discounts and correct sale prices

Egyptian shoppers have learned to spot "fake" discounts, where a price is raised a week before the season and then "cut". It damages trust, and the reviews outlast the sale. Show the price you actually sold at as the original price.

If your products appear in Google Shopping, Merchant Center's sale price attribute lets you submit the offer price, and its companion sale-price effective date attribute limits that price to the campaign window so it switches back automatically. That prevents a finished offer from staying visible in search.

Confirmation, couriers and carts during the rush

Peak days produce orders in bursts, and every unconfirmed order is a potential return.

  • Confirm every order before it ships. A message or call checking address and amount. The full method is in our COD confirmation playbook.
  • Agree capacity with your courier early. Pickup times, expected volumes and who chases delayed parcels. Options are compared in our ecommerce shipping guide for Egypt.
  • Quote realistic delivery times. If the rush adds two days, say so at checkout.
  • Follow up on abandoned carts. Shoppers compare several stores during sales; a reminder can bring some of them back. See our abandoned cart recovery strategy.

After the sale: count what was delivered

The real result arrives about two weeks later, once parcels are delivered and returns come back. Measure:

  1. Orders delivered and paid, not orders placed.
  2. Return rate versus an ordinary month.
  3. Net profit after discount, shipping and returns.
  4. First-time buyers, so you can follow up with a different offer in December.

These four numbers tell you which products earn a place in next year's offer list.

How Baseet helps during White Friday

On Baseet, you can create coupons with conditions such as a minimum order, first order only, or specific products, so discounts stay targeted instead of sitewide. Inventory is deducted automatically with each sale, with an alert before a product runs out, which keeps you from selling stock you don't have. Order confirmation, shipping status and abandoned-cart recovery messages go out on WhatsApp automatically. You can start free, without a credit card.

FAQ

When is White Friday 2026 in Egypt?

Black Friday is the Friday after US Thanksgiving, which in 2026 is 27 November. Egypt's White Friday follows the same timing, and many stores extend offers across the surrounding days or week.

How early should I start preparing my store?

Around six weeks ahead if you can. That leaves time to reorder stock, price offers and arrange confirmation and shipping. If you have less time, prioritise the margin maths and order confirmation.

How big should my White Friday discount be?

There's no universal number. Calculate profit per delivered order after shipping and returns, and keep the discount comfortably below it. Thin-margin products are better offered through gifts or bundles.

Is free shipping worth it during the sale?

It can be, if it applies above an order value that covers the cost. Free shipping on every order loses money on small baskets, especially when a customer refuses delivery.

How can I reduce returns on sale orders?

Confirm each order before shipping, write precise sizes and specs, and give honest delivery times. Customers who know exactly what is arriving, and when, refuse less often.
