The 7-step migration playbook

Migrating from Salla to Baseet looks intimidating from the outside. In practice, most stores complete in under 24 hours with zero downtime. Here's the exact process.

Step 1 — Export your Salla data

From your Salla admin: Settings → Data Export. Download the full bundle (products, customers, orders, categories). Salla provides CSV files. Don't skip the orders export — Baseet imports historical orders so customer order history continues seamlessly.

Step 2 — Sign up for Baseet

Free trial — 5 orders to test, no credit card. Pick a subdomain (you'll point your real domain later). Start at dashboard.baseet.cc/signup

Step 3 — Import products

Dashboard → Products → Import. Upload Salla's CSV. Baseet auto-maps columns; review and confirm. Variants, images, descriptions, and pricing all transfer. For complex catalogs (10k+ SKUs), the migration team can do it via direct database import.

Step 4 — Configure payments + shipping

Connect Paymob (or Stripe / Vodafone Cash / Fawry / Mada / KNET / etc). Connect Bosta / Aramex / SMSA. Both processes take ~5 minutes each — no developer required.

Step 5 — Apply your branding

Baseet templates support full brand customization: logo, colors, fonts (Arabic + English), hero images, footer. If you want a 1:1 visual match with your Salla store, the design team will replicate it for free during migration.

Step 6 — Set up 301 redirects (the SEO-saving step)

This is where most migrations break SEO if done wrong. Baseet auto-generates a redirect map from your old Salla URLs to the matching new Baseet URLs (products, categories, blog posts). Upload this to your DNS or via a Cloudflare worker if you're using one.

The result: Google sees the redirect, transfers SEO authority to Baseet within 2–4 weeks. Most merchants see no ranking drop. See /alternatives/salla for the redirect script template.

Step 7 — DNS cutover

Once you've tested the Baseet store on its temporary subdomain, point your real domain at Baseet. SSL is auto-provisioned. The cutover is instant — your Salla store stops serving traffic, Baseet starts. If you set up redirects in Step 6, even Google bookmarks resolve correctly.

What transfers (and what doesn't)

Transfers: products, variants, categories, customers, order history, brand assets, SEO meta, blog posts (with rewrites).

Doesn't transfer: Salla-specific app integrations (you reconfigure equivalents on Baseet, most of which are native), custom theme code (Baseet uses different template architecture — but the design team rebuilds visually if you want).

Common migration mistakes to avoid

  1. Skipping the redirect step — biggest SEO killer. Always set up 301s before DNS cutover.
  2. Not testing payment flow before cutover — process at least one test order on Baseet with real Paymob to catch any gateway misconfig.
  3. Forgetting product images — Salla's CSV exports image URLs but doesn't copy the files. Baseet's importer downloads from those URLs automatically — but if your Salla images are behind auth, you'll need to ZIP and upload manually.
  4. Migrating during a sale — pick a low-traffic window. The cutover is fast but customers placing orders during the DNS flip can hit a 404 for ~1 minute.

Free migration team

Baseet provides a free migration specialist (Arabic + English) who handles steps 3, 5, 6, and 7 for you. You stay in control of branding (Step 5) and final domain cutover (Step 7) — they handle the technical work.

Frequently asked questions

How long does migration take?

Most stores: under 24 hours. Complex catalogs (10k+ SKUs, 100k+ orders): up to 48 hours. The migration team works in parallel with you so the wait time is mostly you reviewing imports.

Will my customers need to reset their passwords?

Yes — passwords are SHA256-hashed on Salla and we can't decrypt them. Customers receive a "set your password" email on first login to Baseet. The email is fully customized to your brand.

Do I lose my Google rankings?

No, if you set up 301 redirects (Step 6). Google honors these and transfers SEO authority within 2–4 weeks.

Can I run both Salla and Baseet in parallel?

Yes — keep your Salla store live on a sub-subdomain (e.g. old.yourdomain.com) while Baseet serves the main domain. Useful for cutover testing or for merchants with deep Salla app integrations they're unwinding gradually.

What about Salla apps I depend on?

The most-used Salla apps have native equivalents on Baseet (loyalty, abandoned cart, upsells, funnels) included in your subscription — no add-on fees. For niche apps (custom integrations, specific industry tools), check the Baseet integrations page or contact support.
